S-5B Graduation, David Crossman, Managing Director Australasia, IIC Technologies Ltd.

The IIC Academy and O2 METOCEAN are very proud to be able to graduate the 2022-23 IIC Academy S-5B Hydrographic Surveyors Program students in front of the combined Hydrographic Community represented by the Australasian Hydrographic Society and Geospatial Council of Australia

This program is very demanding for the students, most of whom are holding down full-time jobs in the background. The format of the Program allows the students to undertake the 13 weeks of Theoretical Learning as well-placed online, but instructor supported, learning. After successfully completing this the students are brought together for a 7-week intensive Practical period. The first 3 weeks of which are all about getting their hands dirty on the equipment and learning critical practical skills such as boat handling, leveling GNSS observations and more. The final 4 weeks sees the students embark on a Comprehensive Final Field Project, where they work together to undertake a survey to achieve a set of outcomes provided in a Survey Requirement generated for them. In this they must prove their competence and confidence in undertaking the full breadth of the hydrographic survey discipline from ping to final product production.

This year's Practical was delivered in partnership with O2 METOCEAN and strong community assistance where required, notably from Guardian Geomatics and Kongsberg Discovery

We are very pleased to graduate so many students in front of their peers and this community.

S-100 Universal Hydrographic Data Model

David Crossman, Managing Director Australasia, IIC Technologies Ltd.

The move to S100 is significant not only to mariners but to equipment providers and National Hydrographic Authorities who must provide the new format data. Despite the large influence this will have on the community, many have little knowledge of what it is intended to be or the work required to prepare for the transition. Having completed nearly 50 S-100 Projects for National Authorities', the IHO and other clients, and being active participants in most of the S-57, S-100 and other Standards bodies, IIC are arguably the leading global provider of services to National Authorities' in this space. In this presentation IIC will provide an overview of what S-100 is, what it offers the mariner and other users, what needs to be undertaken to achieve the successful implementation, a summary of the progress to date and a look at some of the Projects undertaken by IIC in this space.
